About Yoga

Yoga is defined in the Yoga Sutras as the path to self-knowledge that leads to pure consciousness and total freedom. The American practice of yoga is a modernized version of the physical postures associated with one of the eight branches of yoga described by the Sage Pantanjali. The goal of yoga is to master oneself in order to release control of the world. The centering practice of yoga allows participants to leave the worries and responsibilities for a period of time and focus on a sense of peace and balance that can help them deal with stress, anxiety, and depression, which are often outcomes of living in our fast-paced world.
